Your Complete Cross-Country Road Trips Resource
My name is Rob and I developed this site because cross-country road trips are my passion. I never truly feel at home unless I’m behind the wheel with the radio blasting, driving down some lonesome freeway in the middle of nowhere with good friends in tow. I’m guessing you’re here because you feel the same way.
The experiences on the open road are some of the most valued we will ever have. They can be poignant or bizarre, frustrating or fun. The best thing about road trips are that there are no rules. Life in the “real world” is usually stifling. Life in the great wide open is expansive and free.
We live in an age where we are tethered to a mental clock which commands that we be productive and responsible 48 to 50 weeks a year. Those two to four precious weeks a year which we have to ourselves cannot be squandered. The clock needs to be turned off so the stress of the past year can melt away and your spirit can be imbued once again with the freedom, sense of adventure and plain-old fun you had in your youth.
Other forms of travel are just an extension of our 9-to-5 work-a-day lives. On cross-country road trips, there are no invasive pat-downs by TSA agents. You don’t have to ask a friend to rush you to the airport at 3 a.m. only to wait another three hours on the tarmac, sharing one bathroom with 300 other cattle. There are no tour itineraries to be met or long afternoons shoulder-to-shoulder with some guy with noticeable body odor..
But when you hop in your car or RV, you control everything. You choose your company. You eat when and what you want. You decide what landmarks and destinations pique your interest without a tour guide’s approval. You can stay at some posh lodgings or some run-down podunk motel when it suits YOUR itinerary. When you need to stretch your legs or have a cigarette, you can pull over anywhere. You can whip out your camera and take goofy pictures posing in front of weird road signs and statues. Heck, you can moon people as they drive by for all anyone cares. It’s your trip, nobody else owns it in any way.
I haven’t flown in ten years and don’t miss it one iota. Great American cross-country road
trips are the only vacations I need or desire. The United States has the most diverse topography and best-maintained highways in the world. I already speak the native language and every resource I need is available if needed. America is so varied and huge that an entire lifetime would scarcely be enough to see everything worth seeing.
